According to a new report that surfaced on XDA Developers, Huawei’s upcoming flagship will have an iPhone X-like notch at the top. This information was provided to XDA Developers by a third-party source, and this is likely the Huawei P11 that we’re talking about here, as that handset is expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year, likely during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and it is the company’s next-in-line flagship.
Now, this info was originally picked up from firmware files, or least that’s what the source says, and in image fo the said notch has also been provided, and it has been included down below. Now, as you can see, this notch is not as big as the one on the iPhone X, as far as size is concerned, it stands somewhere between the iPhone X’s and Essential PH-1’s notch. This overlay image is referenced in a configuration file, and that configuration file references the ‘RoundCornerDisplay’. Now, in an another configuration file, a system build, well, one of the system build properties, references a ‘notch’ specifically. The configuration file claims that the display of this phone will measure 6.01-inches, and that it is Samsung’s EA8074 CMD display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080. On the other hand, the boot animation, charging images and a system property all indicate that the phone sports a 2244 x 1080 resolution, which is a rather odd resolution, and if a notch will be there, then it makes perfect sense.
It’s safe to say that not many people are expecting to see a notch on the Huawei P11, so if this info is accurate, it begs the question, why is it there? Is Huawei planning to include some sort of a face recognition software in the Huawei P11, just like Apple, or? Well, it is possible, though, on the other hand, it’s possible that this notch is required for the front-facing sensors that the company plans to include in this smartphone. According to a recent leak, the Huawei P11 is expected to sport a triple camera setup on the back, and a dual camera setup on its front side. The phone’s front-facing cameras will probably be 12-megapixels each, though nothing has been confirmed just yet. We should start seeing more Huawei P11 leaks in the coming weeks, and those will hopefully shed some light on all this, and make sense out of all this ‘noise’.
