The Google Pixelbook was announced at the company's fall hardware event back in October, as its new high-end Chromebook. It was announced with three versions, the entry-level and mid-tiers sport Intel Core i5 processors with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 128GB of SSD storage. But there was a higher-end model that was also announced, which featured an Intel Core i7 processor, along with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage, but it was not available, until now. Those that have been holding out for the higher-end model can now get their credit cards ready and place their order.
Pixelbook is a high-end Chromebook from Google, basically showcasing the fact that Google is really able to put together a high-end Chromebook itself, instead of relying on partners like Acer, ASUS, HP and Dell. It's made of aluminum and glass, like most smartphones these days, and it also folds into tablet, like most laptops these days. The Pixelbook is running on Chrome OS, so for most people, these specs are going to be overkill, but it is nice to have this kind of power in a laptop, especially one that doesn't run a bogged down operating system. With the Pixelbook also comes the Pixelbook Pen, which is not included and does cost another $100. It's a stylus that works decently well with the Pixelbook, and allows you to take notes on your Pixelbook among other things.
It's worth noting that this higher-end model of the Pixelbook is going to set you back $1650, before taxes and shipping. So it is definitely not a cheap Chromebook from Google. That actually puts it near the cost of a MacBook Pro from Apple, which does have similar specs, but many would argue that it has a better operating system available. And the same would go for a Dell XPS 13 or even one of Razer's newer Windows laptops. Now it's also worth pointing out that today is the last day that you can order from the Google Store and get it shipped in time for Christmas, and you have until 2pm PST tonight, which is not much time (less than an hour from the time this is published). So you'll likely be getting this Pixelbook after the holidays are over.
