Xiaomi had introduced two new budget smartphones quite recently, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, and these two handsets are now available for pre-order over at GearBest, while some of them are also discounted at the same time (there are several variants linked down below, we’ll talk more about that later on). The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, unlike its predecessors, look more modern, their bezels are considerably thinner, and their displays sport rounded corners. The two phones are made out of metal, while they sport a fingerprint scanner on the back. Now, unlike the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4X, these two handsets utilize on-screen buttons, while the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4X shipped with on-screen keys.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus sport the exact same build, though they’re different when it comes to size, as the Redmi 5 Plus is noticeably bigger, as it comes with a larger display. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, while the Redmi 5 Plus comes with a 5.99-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) panel. So, not only is the Redmi 5 Plus’ display larger, but the phone also sports a higher resolution display. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is fueled by the Snapdragon 450 64-bit octa-core processor, which is Qualcomm’s entry-level chip, while the Redmi 5 Plus comes with the Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor, Qualcomm’s mid-range processor. The Redmi 5 comes in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants, while the Redmi 5 Plus was announced in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. There are several Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus variants listed down below, two Chinese versions, and two international ones. Chinese variants of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus comes with a Chinese version of MIUI, while the international ones will ship with a global ROM. International units are a bit more expensive than the Chinese ones, and only the ‘Plus’ model is discounted a bit.
That being said, the Chinese version of the Redmi 5 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, same can be said for the Chinese variant of the Redmi 5 Plus. Now, as far as international models are concerned, you’ll find 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage in the Redmi 5, while the global Redmi 5 Plus comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage, at least the model that is currently available for pre-order on GearBest. All in all, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are quite compelling phones when you consider their price points and what they have to offer. These two handsets are nice-looking, snappy, and will probably be amongst the company’s best-selling devices in the coming year, so if you’re interested, feel free to pre-order either one.
