Xiaomi has been teasing its ‘Desh Ka’ smartphone for the Indian smartphone market for a couple of days now, and the phone has just been announced by the company, it turns out this is the Redmi 5A. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A was originally announced in October in China, so this is not exactly a brand new smartphone, but it’s new for the Indian smartphone market. The Redmi 5A, as many of you already know, is the company’s entry-level handset, and such Xiaomi-branded smartphones usually sell really well in India.

Having said that, Xiaomi has introduced two variants of the Redmi 5A in India, one comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, while the other one sports 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, both of these offer storage expansion as well. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a metal-clad smartphone which does not sport a fingerprint scanner, which is one of the ways Xiaomi was able to keep its price at bay. The Redmi 5A comes with a rear-facing loudspeaker, and it offers a single camera on its back. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A utilizes capacitive buttons which are placed below its display, and speaking of which, the phone’s display is quite compact, it measures 5-inches, and we’re looking at an HD (1280 x 720) panel here. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is fueled by the Snapdragon 425, which is a 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, and it comes with the Adreno 308 GPU.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A also comes with a 3,000mAh non-removable battery, which should be more than enough to keep the phone running for quite some time, having its screen size and resolution in mind. A 13-megapixel snapper (f/2.2 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, PDAF) is included on the back of the Redmi 5A, while you will find a 5-megapixel shooter (f/2.0 aperture, 1.12um pixel size) on the phone’s front side. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A measures 140 x 70.1 x 8.35mm, while it weighs 137 grams, in case you were wondering. Now, Xiaomi introduced three color variants of this handset in India, Dark Gray, Gold and Rose Gold options.
