The new Coolpad Cool Play 6C smartphone has gone up for pre-orders in China, sporting entry-level specifications and a budget-friendly price tag. The handset follows the Cool Play 6 released earlier this year, albeit that model came with a hefty 6GB of RAM and beefier specs all around. The new Coolpad Cool Play 6C is lower-end and cheaper than the Cool Play 6 before it, aiming to compete in the budget segment of the market. The device costs 849 yuan (roughly $128) and is currently up for pre-orders before going on sale on November 25th. The price is significantly lower to that of the Cool Play 6 which retails for 1,499 yuan (about $228), but so are the specs.
The Coolpad Cool Play 6C coms with a 5-inch IPS display with 2.5D curved glass and an HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the handset packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.25GHz. Other specs include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage space, a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 128GB, dual-SIM support (nano SIM), and Android 7.1.1 Nougat on the software side. Amid these entry-level specs, the highlight of the smartphone is that it comes with dual front cameras, more specifically an 8-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel one with an f/2.2 aperture. On the back, the smartphone sports a single 13-megapixel camera with an LED flash and phase detection autofocus. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, has a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microUSB port for charging and data transfers. A 2,500mAh battery will keep things up and running but isn't removable.
The smartphone sports a simple design with rounded corners and a plastic build, suitable for the entry-level segment. While there's no shortage of cheap Chinese smartphones available on the market, the Coolpad Cool Play 6C aims to attract selfie lovers looking for a budget device with dual front cameras. There's no information at this point on when or if the Coolpad Cool Play 6C will ever make it to other markets outside of China. The Cool Play 6 did launch in India, so the Cool Play 6C might eventually reach more countries as well.
