Pre-Orders For Samsung's Gear Sport Are Now Live In The UK

Those who have been anticipating the Samsung's Gear Sport fitness wearable hitting the UK may not have much time left to wait since pre-orders for the region are now live. Via the wearable's official Samsung store page, the device can be purchased for £299.00 (around $393). Best of all, those who pre-order before October 26 will be receiving a pair of the company's new U Flex headphones as part of a promotional deal. That's only available while U Flex supplies last, though, so anybody interested will probably want to head over to pre-order now.

For those who may not remember, the Gear Sport was launched at IFA in Berlin back in August. The Tizen OS-powered wearable isn't quite a smartwatch but is intended to be more of a fitness companion in a watch-like form factor. That means it features many of the things a user may be looking for in a wrist-worn wearable, such as NFC to use alongside Samsung Pay, Bluetooth 4.2, and a watch face or two. However, it also has several features not found in most smartwatches and does pretty much anything a fitness-oriented user could want. For starters, the Gear Sport is equipped with a dedicated GPS chip and a rotating bezel to aid in navigating the built-in or downloaded software. User's more comfortable with voice-interaction can take advantage of the built-in S-Voice capabilities. It's also ruggedized to survive at depths of 50 meters for around 2 hours, so it can continue recording fitness activities in the water. Of course, it will also track how physically active a user is and provide feedback about calories burned and other workout statistics, as well as providing users with workout routines to try out. That's in addition to smart features that help prompt stretching exercises and other activities if a user remains inactive for long periods of time.

With regard to specifications, the Gear Sport's OS is run through a dual-core Exynos processor, clocked at 1.0GHz. That's backed by 0.75GB of RAM, with 1.5GB of storage remaining beyond what's taken up by the OS itself. Meanwhile, everything's packed underneath a 1.2-inch Super-AMOLED screen and power is provided by a 300mAh battery. That package has a claimed battery life of around 3 to 4 days with typical use.
