The Android-powered OPPO R11s will feature a relatively bezel-less aesthetic, the Chinese company confirmed earlier this week by publishing a couple of new teasers for the device that can be seen above. The images themselves suggest that the upcoming smartphone is still bound to have some bezels on the top and bottom but will also ship with a screen that stretches to its long edges, with the phone itself also apparently being set to ditch the physical Home button found on the OPPO R11 and its fingerprint reader being moved to the rear panel.
The BBK Electronics-owned original equipment manufacturer shared the two latest teasers for the device via Chinese social media platform Weibo where it also revealed that the upcoming product will ship with a 6.01-inch screen with a tall aspect ratio of 18:9, i.e. 2:1. The image format that OPPO is adopting for the R11s has already been commercialized on numerous occasions over the course of this year, having been used by the likes of LG, Huawei, and Xiaomi. The taller aspect ratio was primarily designed for the purpose of making a phablet easier to hold, with OPPO now claiming that the R11s will feel like a 5.5-inch device despite boasting a significantly larger display panel. Another benefit of this format is that it eliminates black bars from traditional widescreen videos, which is something that OEMs are often quick to point out.
The OPPO R11s is rumored to be packed with the Snapdragon 660, Qualcomm's new mid-range SoC which powered the original R11 released earlier this year. The handset is also expected to feature 64GB of internal flash memory and 4GB of RAM, in addition to being equipped with a microSD card slot allowing for up to 256GB of additional storage. Previous rumors suggested that OPPO's upcoming offering will debut with a dual-camera setup entailing a 20-megapixel sensor and a 16-megapixel one, whereas its slim top bezel is said to house a 20-megapixel module. Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Color OS will reportedly be part of the package, though it remains to be seen whether the OPPO R11s eventually gets upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo. The device itself is scheduled to be officially unveiled in China on November 2nd and should eventually become available outside of OPPO's home country.
