Nokia 6 Now Receiving Android 7.1.2, October Security Patch

HMD Global is now rolling out an update that will install Android 7.1.2 Nougat to the Nokia 6. This operating system upgrade brings the battery usage alerts feature to the device. This feature appears as a new option in the overflow menu of the battery settings and it provides additional information about the power consumption of the installed applications. In addition, this software package also installs the October 2017 Android security patch and it also includes a number of user interface enhancements and system stability improvements.

The update is currently being deployed automatically and it may take several days before the upgrade reaches all devices. However, the user may attempt to manually initiate the installation process by going to the device settings. The manufacturer advises its customers to download the update through a stable Wi-Fi connection, since downloading the software package through a cellular network may result in additional charges. Before the software upgrade is installed, the user should backup the contents of the device to a PC or a microSD card and check if the smartphone's battery has enough charge to last the entire procedure. It is also important to verify if the internal memory of the handset has enough free space to store the software package, which has a file size of 665MB.

The Nokia 6 was announced by HMD Global earlier this year, and it sports a blend of mid-range and low-end specifications. The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 430 chipset from Qualcomm, which is comprised of eight ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPUs with a maximum frequency of 1.4GHz and the Adreno 505 GPU. The smartphone also sports a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 and an aspect ratio of 16:9, either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of internal flash storage that can be expanded by a microSD card. The rear camera of the device is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor while the front camera comes with an 8-megapixel shooter. The Nokia 6 also includes a 3,000mAh non-removable battery and a hybrid SIM card slot, which supports either two SIM cards or one SIM card and one microSD card at the same time. The handset initially shipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat pre-installed and it is expected to receive an update that will install Android 8.0 Oreo within the next few months.
