August Home announced a few new products last month, which included the Doorbell Cam Pro. While the other products were made available immediately for purchase, and began shipping then, the Doorbell Cam Pro was not. It was available for pre-order with August Home stating that it would be shipping in October. And now units have begun shipping out. It's shipping now from Amazon as well as August Home's own website. It is priced at $199, and there is also an August Video Recording service available, which will cost you $4.99/month or $49.99 for an entire year.
The Doorbell Cam Pro is exactly what it sounds like, and that's a smart doorbell. As is the case with most smart doorbells, there is a camera built-in, so you are able to see who is at the door without going to the door. Using the August Home app, you can get notifications when someone comes to your door, even if they don't ring the doorbell. And a feature that August Home has added to the Doorbell Cam Pro, makes this even more useful. And that's Hindsight. It will add a few seconds of video to the recording even before motion is detected, so you'll be able to see exactly what is going on. This is great in case something happens, like a kidnapping outside your home or your home being robbed, as you'll have video proof – and as we've seen lately, this type of product has become very useful in that regard.
Doorbell Cam Pro is a great doorbell to pick up for your home, and it joins the ever expanding world of smart doorbells. While companies like Ring really pioneered this industry, others in the smart home market are starting to come around. Including Nest, who recently announced its own smart doorbell just last month. The Doorbell Cam Pro, however, is one of the cheaper ones out there. With the Ring Video Doorbell Pro costing $249.99, and Nest's model hasn't even been given a price just yet.
