$179 NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Now Available To Buy

The $179 version of the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV is now available to buy. This is the latest version of the SHIELD to hit the market as it was first announced by the company during the second half of September. Although at the time of the announcement NVIDIA had only opened pre-orders for those who wanted to be one of the first to get their hands on the device. From today however, the $179 version of the SHIELD is now listed as 'in stock' and is ready to ship. Therefore those who have already pre-ordered should expect their orders to be in the process of being fulfilled.

While this is a slightly cheaper priced version of the SHIELD, the actual streaming box, as well as all it offers is exactly the same as the $199 model. So while cheaper there is nothing lesser about the main unit. The reason NVIDIA is able to offer this version at a cheaper price is due to this particular package not including the SHIELD Controller (game pad) in the box. So unlike the $199 version which comes with the main unit, the SHIELD Controller, and the SHIELD Remote, this version simply comes with the main unit and the SHIELD Remote.

Making it an ideal option for those who are less interested in the gaming side of the SHIELD and more interesting in buying a capable and powerful streaming box. Unlike most other Android TV solutions, the NVIDIA SHIELD has routinely proven itself to be the go-to option for many buyers due to to its combination of power and performance. Likewise, and as far as Android TV devices go, NVIDIA has been one of the leaders when it comes to providing routine and noteworthy upgrades. For example, following the launch of this more affordably priced option, Android TV finally gained access to the Google Assistant. Although by Android TV, only the NVIDIA SHIELD has gotten the update so far as the feature has yet to roll out to other Android TV-powered devices. So irrespective of whether you pick up the $179, $199, or $299 version of the SHIELD, the Google Assistant, is one of the extra features you can expect to be included out of the box. In spite of now entering an in stock and ready to ship status, this version of the SHIELD is currently only available to buy through NVIDIA directly. Although it is expected to become available through other retailers in due course.
