Samsung has now begun offering its latest flagships – the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus – unlocked on its website. Making it easier for customers to pick up their new smartphone and take it to whichever carrier they wish to use it on, even on carriers that do not sell it. For example, MVNO's like Straight Talk and Simple Mobile. Basically, you'll choose which smartphone you want, then you'll be able to choose your carrier and data plan. Making it dead simple to switch carriers with your brand new smartphone.
In addition to launching the unlocked Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, Samsung is also launching its financing and trade-in programs. Now Samsung already offers financing of both devices, which starts at $30.24/month for 24 months with 0% APR. But now you'll be able to finance the unlocked models, which are offered at the same prices. That is $750 for the Galaxy S8 and $850 for the Galaxy S8 Plus. This is all to make it easier to upgrade to the new Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus. Samsung is also allowing customers to trade in their current smartphone for credit towards the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. So you'll be able to trade in different smartphones for an unspecified amount. Of course, flagships like the iPhone 7, Galaxy S7 or LG G5 will all net a bigger trade in amount than something like the Moto G4 Play.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are two of the best smartphones currently available on the market. Both smartphones sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There is a microSD card slot available as well, allowing the opportunity to expand the storage. Samsung did opt to use a slightly upgraded camera this time around, it's still a 12-megapixel shooter with an f/1.7 aperture, OIS, laser autofocus and phase detection autofocus. The front-facing camera sports an 8-megapixel sensor with a f/1.7 aperture. Both do also feature headphone jacks, a USB-C port and Bluetooth 5.0. Now where these two smartphones differ is in their display size and battery capacity. The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch 2960 x 1440 resolution Super AMOLED display, with a 3,000 mAh battery inside. The Galaxy S8 Plus has a larger 6.2-inch 2960 x 1440 resolution Super AMOLED display, and a 3,500 mAh battery inside.
Samsung also offers a slew of accessories for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Including a Fast Wireless Charger, and DeX which can turn your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus into a full-fledged desktop computer – providing you have a monitor, keyboard and mouse attached to them. The Fast Wireless Charger is available for $89 and DeX is available for $149. Samsung now has the Gear 360 available for sale, which is priced at $229. However, if you purchase the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus, you can get the new Gear 360 for only $49.
