LeEco Android TVs Updated With DIRECTV NOW App

LeEco's range of Android TV-powered TVs are receiving a new update today and one which brings with it DIRECTV NOW. This was a feature that had been originally touted when LeEco's new Android TV range launched, although it seemed it had been delayed for whatever reason. In either case though, if you do own a LeEco Android TV, the update is now en route and will bring with it Android TV access to DIRECTV NOW.

This update is relevant to the full LeEco Android TV range, meaning that owners of either the LeEco Super4 X65, Super4 X55, Super4 X43 Pro, or the LeEco uMax85, will see the update arriving. It is important to note that these TVs do not go through the usual Android (or Android TV) update process and instead make use of the company's own update tool which can be found on the leanback launcher. However, as is usually the case with Android updates, the TVs will show a prompt notifying the user that an update is waiting, so there should be no issue in finding the update. Once the prompt is present, the user can just click through and apply the update in the normal fashion.

For those who would rather manually search for the update (instead of waiting for the prompt), look for the "System Update" app on the main leanback launcher and then search for updates. If the update is available it will show up and allow you to install the update as normal. Another change which is included in the update is the merging of LeEco's "LIVE" app with the "Le" app, so all of the LIVE content will now be accessible through the Le app. This update does keep the Android version on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), but does see the security patch level raised to March 2017. So as well as adding DIRECTV NOW, the update will also include a number of important security fixes and patches. So whether you intend to use DIRECTV NOW or not, this is an update worth installing as soon as possible. Of course, if you are new to DIRECTV NOW, then it is worth keeping in mind that buyers of an LeEco Android TV get three months access to DIRECTV NOW for free.
