Latest WhatsApp Beta Introduces "Pin Chats" Feature

WhatsApp ups the ante with WhatsApp Beta 2.17.163 on Android, introducing the ability to pin a maximum of 3 chats up on your list. This would provide WhatsApp users with the ability to check their favorite or most important chats quickly without having to waste time scrolling down the screen. As long as your Android-powered smartphone is running on WhatsApp beta 2.17.162 and 2.17.163, the “Pin Chats” feature ought to be there. It appears in the form of a pin icon that is placed to the left side of the “Archive” icon when you tap-hold on a particular chat. Upon selecting the pin option, that particular chat will end up right at the top of your chats. All pinned conversations will remain right at the top of the chat list regardless of whether there has been any recent activity or otherwise.

Unpinning a chat is equally simple -- press-hold on that particular pinned chat, and the unpin option will appear. Picking the unpin option will see said chat assume its rightful place in your list of chats based on the chronological order. Do take note that only WhatsApp beta 2.17.162 and 2.17.163 versions will arrive with the “Pin Chats” feature. If you are running the most recent version of WhatsApp on Android, this feature is non-existent for the moment.

Only a beta tester on Android handsets will be eligible to download WhatsApp beta via the Play Store by signing up as a beta tester. Signing up for the beta version is a snap. Once you have signed up for it, by clicking the "Become a Tester" button in Google Play, reinstall the WhatsApp app and you are good to go. Or you can sideload it using the download link below. At this point in time, WhatsApp users are also able to mute chats that are overly active so that they do not get distracted by the tens or perhaps hundreds of messages that flood that chat throughout the day, and this ability to pin up to 3 chats right at the top of the list comes in handy for the extremely busy.
