Blossom 7 Watering Controller Now Supports Google Assistant

The Blossom 7 Smart Watering Controller now features native support for the Google Assistant, the Marysville, Ohio-based consumer electronics manufacturer announced following the closure of the Google I/O 2017 Keynote on Wednesday. The device's support for Google's artificial intelligence (AI) companion was rolled out via a firmware update earlier this week and allows Blossom's customers to keep using their smart watering controller like they have been so far, in addition to issuing it voice commands via the Google Assistant.

The product itself was launched earlier this year, with its creators advertising it as the ultimate irrigation controller that's a significant upgrade over existing solutions. While it boasts robust capabilities, the Blossom 7 Watering Controller was designed to be as simple to use as possible and is targeted at a mainstream audience, the Ohio-based company said, adding that its solution isn't any more expensive than standard eight-station irrigation controllers are, meaning it's also cheaper than any other Internet-enabled sprinkler hub on the market. The Internet of Things (IoT) gadget relies on weather forecasts to automatically create an irrigation schedule that can later be manually modified by the user. By only distributing water during dry days (or nights), the Blossom 7 is capable of efficiently irrigating your lawn while simultaneously lowering your utility bills, its creators claim.

The Blossom 7 Watering Controller was previously known as the Blossom 8, though its new owner Scotts Miracle-Gro decided to change the name of the product to better reflect the fact that it covers seven zones, while an additional zone can be supported with the use of a Pump Start Relay (PSR) connector. Apart from the Google Assistant, the device is also compatible with Amazon's Alexa voice-enabled companion, making it one of the most flexible smart irrigation controllers on the market. Consumers can start using the Google Assistant to control their Blossom-made devices by telling the voice-enabled helper that they want to "talk to Blossom." In addition to the Blossom 7, the Google Assistant support also extends to the original Blossom 12 Zone Smart Watering Controller. Both products can be purchased directly from Blossom but are also presently also available on Amazon at a slight discount.
