Tap Instead Of Press Galaxy S7 Edge's Home Button With This APK

A new application allows Galaxy S7 Edge owners to use their fingerprint sensor as a capacitive home button. Effectively, users will no longer have to click down the home button to get to the home screen. Instead, a simple tap will work, saving on thumb strain and device wear-and-tear. To be clear, there are other apps that will do the same thing such as easyHome. However, with Fingertouch - as this new application is called - there is at least one distinct advantage in how the application is activated and deactivated.

Where Fingertouch differentiates itself from the competition is with the ability to quickly disable or enable the service in the notifications pull-down, via Quick Settings. That difference may seem small but has a significant impact on how such applications affect overall device use. It boils down to the fact that because the application overrides the functionality of that sensor, it can't be used for authentication purposes while the app is running. With other applications, a user has to disable the app in a much more manual fashion - through the settings menu or even by opening the installed application itself. That adds to the number of screen taps and steps that a user has to go through to use the fingerprint sensor as a fingerprint sensor. In the end, it can be both a hassle and an inconvenient drain on time. Since Fingertouch has persistent notifications or can be set via a Quick Settings custom tile, attributed to the app service running in the foreground, users can quickly and easily turn the service off. The notification itself can also be turned off, if users prefer a cleaner notification bar, with no negative effects on the app's functionality.

Unfortunately, there are also a few caveats to using Fingertouch. First among those is that the application is intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and is optimized using Samsung's SDK. As a result, it will most likely only work with "official or modified official firmware." That means rooted devices running custom ROMs will most likely not be able to take advantage of the app. It is also pointed out that Android 7.0 (Nougat) or better is actually a requirement to use the app. Fingertouch should also be excluded from any battery saver settings, or the system will kill the process. Finally, a fingerprint will need to be registered through the system settings. Barring those requirements, the app creator states that the app performs well and doesn't cause any system issues or drain the battery in a noticeable way. It's also completely free.
