The HBO GO and the HBO GO Android TV apps have both received an update in the last week which brings with it some improvements to the fluidity of how viewers consumers content. The new features are specifically for those who like to binge watch TV shows. Keep in mind, these updates are for the HBO GO app and not the HBO NOW app. The main difference being that the former is for those who already have an active HBO cable subscription, while the latter is for those on more of a pay-as-you-go type of subscription. HBO NOW did actually receive an update earlier in April which brought with it minor improvements to its Chromecast functionality.
In terms of the latest versions of the two HBO GO apps though, the main features noted in the changelog are common to both apps. So for instance, whether you use the dedicated mobile version or the Android TV-optimized version, you can expect the ability to continue watching a series again where you left off. In short, the apps now remember where you were. In addition, both apps also now come with a new "automated binge mode" which lets you continuously watch back a serious uninterrupted and without having to manually do anything. As to be expected with any app update, both apps also come loaded with unnamed 'bug fixes,' while the mobile-specific app also comes with an improved landing page for series listings.
In reality, these are features that many would assume apps like these two would already have and in particular when it comes to the Android TV version. So while it might seem long overdue, both apps now at least are receiving these features. As mentioned both apps seem to be already in the process of being updated, so there is a good chance that you have already seen the update arrive on your devices. According to the Google Play Store listings, both the mobile and Android TV version updates started rolling out on April 13.
