The Huawei Watch 2 wearable officially launched in the United States today, priced at $299.99. Powered by Android Wear 2.0, Huawei's latest smartwatch is available in Concrete Grey and Carbon Black, the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer confirmed in a press release. Apart from the newly introduced variants of the device, the company will also launch the Huawei Watch 2 Classic in the near future. The premium model of the wearable will sport a $369.99 price tag and only be available in Titanium Grey, Huawei said, but didn't clarify on whether more variants of the device are planned to be released in the future. Likewise, the Huawei Watch 2 Classic still doesn't have a firm release date attached to it.
As an added incentive, Huawei and Google are offering ten weeks of access to Google Play Music free of charge to anyone who purchases any model of the Huawei Watch 2. Customers who already use some other trial of Google Play Music should still be able to combine that promotion with the one offered by Huawei, i.e. prolong their period of free access to the service. The Huawei Watch 2 will be sold by most major retailers and eCommerce giants in the country, including Amazon, Walmart, BestBuy, Newegg, Target, Jet, and B&H Photo Video. The watch itself features a circular 1.2-inch AMOLED display panel with a resolution of 390 by 390 pixel and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 2100 system-on-chip (SoC) boasting a quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz. The Huawei Watch 2 also ships with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, in addition to boasting support for Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, and GLONASS.
New owners of the Huawei Watch 2 can connect their wearable with any smartphone running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and newer versions of Google's operating system, though the fact that Huawei's wearable runs Android Wear 2.0 means it's also capable of functioning as a standalone device. The watch ships with a hybrid strap made of both rubber and leather that's 22mm (7/8") wide and is offered in a broad range of different styles. The stateside launch of the Huawei Watch 2 marks the latest step in the company's efforts to expand its international presence and diversify its revenue stream.
