Against all expectations, one of the big announcements to emerge from this year's MWC event was the introduction of a re-envisioned Nokia 3310. Which among other things, brings to the market a phone priced around $65. Arguably, a great price for any phone, and even one which lacks in certain features and specifications. Speaking of which Gretel has now announced the launch of its latest smartphone, the Gretel A7, and wants to make it clear that this is a “Nokia 3310 killer.”
To highlight the value that is on offer with the Gretel A7 (and especially compared to what you will pay for the Nokia 3310), Gretel has put together a nice overview comparison. Detailing that the Gretel A7 is a 3G smartphone, while the Nokia 3310 is only a 2G feature phone. Likewise, the Gretel A7 comes equipped with a 4.7-inch touchscreen display with a 1280 x 720 resolution, compared to the Nokia 3310’s 2.4-inch non-touchscreen display with a 320 x 240 resolution. The comparison does not end there either, with the Gretel A7 coming equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 32GB expandable storage support, 2,00 mAh battery, and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) - which the company notes will be updated to Android 7.0 (Nougat) within the next three months. Compared to the Nokia 3310's 2-megapixel rear camera, no front-facing camera, 16GB internal storage, 32GB expandable storage support, 1,200 mAh battery, and S30 software.
While it seems strange to compare a new smartphone against the likes of the Nokia 3310, Gretel is looking to ensure that consumers realize just how cheap its smartphone is. For instance, the Gretel A7 is due to become widely available on May 2 and will be priced at only $49.99 - which makes it cheaper than the Nokia 3310. In fact, while the Gretel A7 remains in a pre-order status, it will be available to pick up even lower, at $39.99. A price that is hard to argue against - even by Nokia 3310 standards. Adding to its value, Gretel is also currently offering three accessories for free to those who pre-order early, including a colored back cover, a silicone case, and a protective film. Although, it is worth keeping in mind that the reduced price and the free accessories are not only time-sensitive purchases, but also stock limited. So this will be a matter of first-come-first-served. The pre-order promotion started today (April 24) and runs through until May 2. With shipping due to commence from April 27. As part of the launch period, Gretel has also announced that it plans to give away a number of Gretel A7 smartphones over the coming weeks with more details on those giveaways taking place on the company’s Facebook and VK pages. In the meantime, those interested in checking out the durability benefits (something the Nokia 3310 is famous for) on offer with the Gretel A7, can do so by checking out the video below.
