T-Mobile has reportedly launched a new software update on the HTC One M9, bringing the OS version up to Android Nougat. Although the smartphone’s official software page on T-Mobile doesn’t mention any details about a new update at the time of writing, it would appear that some HTC One M9 users have already received the new update, bringing the software version up to 4.27.531.6.
Judging by a couple of screenshots passed along by Android Police, T-Mobile’s HTC One M9 is now making the jump to Android Nougat. The entire update weighs a hefty 1.09 GB and includes the Android security patch launched by Google in February 2017. Additionally, the update promises system performance enhancements, which are generally a part of the Android Nougat experience along with improved battery life and a reworked user interface. However since the HTC One M9 carries its own proprietary user interface over the operating system, visually the update might not bring too many changes, and most improvements will likely take place under the hood. In any case, the update will be launched in phases and only a small number of HTC One M9 owners might receive the notification today. The update’s availability should expand gradually and hopefully, T-Mobile will officially confirm the update’s release soon and modify the smartphone’s software update page accordingly. Either way, HTC One M9 users who may have already received the update notification are advised to download the package over a Wi-Fi network to avoid unwanted charges on the monthly bill or to avoid slow transfer speeds. Users who haven’t received the update notification can try to trigger the process from the “Software updates” menu within settings.
The HTC One M9 was released running Android 5.0 Lollipop and T-Mobile’s variant was updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow a year ago in February 2016. Earlier this month T-Mobile began testing Android 7.0 Nougat for the device, and needless to say, it would now appear that the carrier is ready for a more widespread release. The HTC One M9 carries a 5-inch Super LCD3 display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 System-on-Chip, and 3 GB of RAM along with 32 GB of on-board memory.
