MWC 2017 might not officially open its doors to the general public until tomorrow, but in many ways today is likely to be the biggest day of the event due to the number of high-profile companies who have press events scheduled for today. Speaking of which, what is arguable the most high-profile event of this year's MWC event is about to take place. This is course LG's event. It is hardly a secret anymore that LG is planning to unveil their next-in-line G-series smartphone, the LG G6, as the company has been teasing the launch of the G6 for some time now. So while there are likely to be a number of announcements emerging from today's LG event, the unveiling of the LG G6 will certainly be the big announcement and the one to watch out for.
In many ways, this particular LG G launch is a very important one for LG. This time last year the company unveiled the 2016 G-series smartphone, the LG G5, which came with a distinctly modular design where components could be swapped in and out at will. However, the modular design from LG never really took off and to many, marked one of the more disappointing smartphone releases of last year. In a means to remedy the situation, all indications now do point to LG abandoning the modular design with the LG G6 and returning to a more traditional smartphone look, presentation and form.
Although, while the general form might be traditional, so far all of the rumors and teasers are suggesting that this will be anything but a traditional smartphone. LG seems to be going for a design which first and foremost will allow the user to utilize more of the screen than ever before. In addition, this seems to be a smartphone that is being billed as durable smartphone, a camera-centric smartphone, and one which will be 'smarter' than any of the previous G-series smartphones. Which does mean that there will be plenty going for this year's LG flagship smartphone and plenty to talk about after the event. In either case, all is about to be revealed as LG takes to the stage to unveil the LG G6 and you can watch it all unfold live, below.
