LG Watch Sport & Style With Android Wear 2.0 Now Official

Google and LG have today introduced their new smartwatches, the LG Watch Sport and the LG Watch Style. Both of these smartwatches are now confirmed as coming running on the newest version of the Android Wear operating system, Android Wear 2.0. Google and LG have also now confirmed that both smartwatches will be available to buy in the US from February 10, although they will be sold through slightly different avenues. The LG Watch Style will be available to buy for $249.99 from Best Buy and the Google Store, while the LG Watch Sport will be available to buy for $349.99 from AT&T and Verizon, as well as the Google Store.

One of the reasons for the difference in sales location is that the LG Watch Sport is a smartwatch that is LTE-enabled. Which does mean you will be able to use this smartwatch in a standalone fashion and without having to pair it to your smartphone. Although, of course, you can if you want. As a result, interested buyers will be able to pick up the LG Watch Sport from either AT&T or Verizon and on its own data plan. Although, that is not the only difference between the two models. In addition to LTE-capabilities, the LG Watch Sport also comes equipped with NFC which will allow for payments to be made using Android Pay directly from the smartwatch. Add to that GPS tracking for exercise and navigation purposes and you have what Google refers to as “Android Wear’s most powerful watch yet.” As a means to additionally increase the Watch Sport's functionality and efficiency, Google and LG have also confirmed that the Watch Sport comes equipped with dedicated Google Fit and Android Pay buttons which should make launching and using both features much faster. While general navigation of the Watch Sport's interface is also a breeze thanks to the inclusion of a rotating power button.

In contrast, the LG Watch Style is designed to be more of a lightweight option for those simply looking for a watch which comes with smart features. So while this one is not as feature-rich as the Watch Sport, the Watch Style is light, thin, and designed to be comfortable to wear. Adding to its position as the more ‘stylish’ of the two watches and the LG Watch Style is also able to make use of various snap-and-swap straps, In fact, it seems you will get more than one in the box so you can literally swap the style and look of the Watch Style to match your outfit, occasion, or otherwise. The LG Watch Strap will be available in three different finishes, consisting of silver, rose gold and titanium. While the snap-and-swap straps will be available in both 18mm leather and silicone options.

Those outside of the US who are looking to pick up either of the two watches, Google has confirmed that the LG Watch Style and Watch Sport are due to become available in Canada, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, UAE and the UK. Although, Google has yet to confirm when those regions will see their availability going live, other than stating “in the coming weeks”. In the meantime though, you can check out both the LG Watch Sport and the LG Watch Style in more detail, in the galleries below.
