If you live in New York or happen to be visiting next weekend and are looking for a fun way to kill some time, you may want to head down to the Google Home block party at Chelsea Market. The search giant is throwing the party to promote Google Home and Google Play Music. In addition to an ongoing promotion offering Google Play Music free for 6 months with the purchase of Google Home, the company's Home devices have also recently been added to the inventory of several retailers. That gives Google a perfect reason to host live events like these, with the goal of drawing in new users through a live demonstration of the kinds of experiences that can be created using Home and Play Music in combination.
The first two of the three parties - which take place at 75 9th Ave. New York, NY - will happen on February 24 and 25 and run from 10 am to 9 pm. Day three of festivities is slated for February 26 and will start at the same time, but is scheduled to end at 6 pm. Since this is a promotion for both Google Home and Google Play Music, it's a good bet that the party will have a wide array of music to show off the breadth of variety available via the company's music app. Features likely to be shown off could also include the Google Play Music Application's ability to help users discover music based on their current mood. However, music is really just one of the many things that Google's Home device is capable of and the block party will almost certainly promote those features as well - like for instance, the ability to shop with Google Home and the device's AI-driven Google Assistant.
It is worth noting that this is not the first block party Google has thrown to promote its smart home connective and streaming products and services as the company hosted a similar party in Los Angeles already. However, this is scheduled to be the last set of block parties Google has planned, and so if you do happen to be in the area this upcoming weekend, and are a fan of Google's products, make a note of the dates.
