Best Chromebooks – February 2017

Thanks to the number of new Chromebooks that have come though recently, there has never been a better time to pick up a new Chromebook. If price is one of your main decision making factors, then there are quite a few Chromebooks now available which are very competitively priced. However, if you are willing to pay more for one, then the choice of premium Chromebooks that are now available has also never been healthier. The only downside to this abundance of choice is knowing which Chromebook to actually go for. To make the decision a little easier, here are ten options we consider to be the best Chromebook choices for February 2017.

10. ASUS Chromebook Flip

The ASUS Chromebook Flip has proved to be a popular option since it first came to market and with good reason. This is a Chromebook which can be used in a variety of positions, which makes it an ideal Chromebook for those looking for a more portable unit. The downside however, is that this is one of the smallest Chromebooks on the market. So if a 10.1-inch display is a little too small for your liking, then this is not the Chromebook for you. Otherwise, you are getting a very powerful Chromebook in a very small and portable form factor. Besides the 10.1-inch (1280 x 800 resolution) display, the ASUS Chromebook Flip also comes packing 4GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a Rockchip (RK3288) processor. In terms of price, you are looking at paying about $255 right now. Although, if you are looking for a bit more storage, than the 32GB model is currently a better buy at $279.

9. Lenovo 100s Chromebook

If you happen to be looking for a very affordable Chromebook, then the Lenovo 100s Chromebook is one that is worth checking out. This is a Chromebook which is priced around $179.99, making it one of the most affordable Chromebooks on this list. For that price, you will receive an 11.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. While inside you can expect to find 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and an Intel Celeron (N2840) processor. While the specs are not necessarily the most appealing, this is the sort of Chromebook which is ideal for students, due to its emphasis on build quality and affordability.

8. Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131

Like the Lenovo 100s Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131 is another option that is worth considering if price is one of your main decision-making factors. In fact, this is a Chromebook which is generally identically-priced to the Lenovo 100s. In return for that identical pricing structure, is an identical spec list. So you can expect to find another 11.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. As well as 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and an Intel Celeron (N2840) processor. Both the Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131 and the Lenovo 100s Chromebook do fluctuate in price and at the moment the Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131 is the better priced of the two, making it a slightly better purchase for those planning on buying this month. In fact, right now you can pick this one up for as low as $159.99 - which is very good value.

7. Dell Chromebook 13

If price is less of a concern when choosing a new Chromebook, then the Dell Chromebook 13 is one which you might want to check out. Especially, if you are after a greatly improved spec list. For instance, one of the lesser spec variants include 4GB RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor. Although the price for this one currently comes in at $639. Both the price and the specs only climb from there. Regardless of which variant you do opt for though, you can expect a 13.3-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, as well as 32GB internal storage at a minimum. While this is not the most affordable Chromebook on the list, it is certainly one of the most powerful in terms of specs and also one which comes with an excellent build quality. So in spite of the higher cost, you are getting your money's worth.

6. Samsung Chromebook 3

Samsung recently released a new Chromebook and that one does make the list this month, but in a much higher position. The downside with the new Samsung Chromebook is the price, as it is an expensive option. If you do however, want to pick up a Samsung Chromebook and would prefer not to spend as much as the newer model, then the Samsung Chromebook 3 is certainly one you will want to consider. In contrast to the new Samsung Chromebook, the Samsung Chromebook 3 is available for as little as $167. For that price, you are getting the lesser model which comes with 2GB RAM. Although for less than $15 more, you also can pick up the 4GB RAM version. In spite of their RAM differences, both models come equipped with an 11.6-inch display, both offer 16GB storage and both versions come powered by an Intel Celeron (N3050) processor.

5. Lenovo ThinkPad 13

Sticking with the Chromebook options which offer good value for money, the Lenovo ThinkPad 13 is another option which comes with a great spec list and at a great price. Right now, this one can be picked up for $189.99 and for that price, this is a Chromebook which comes with a 13.3-inch display. Which does mean that it is the biggest of the more affordable Chromebooks on this list. So if 11.6-inch displays are a little too small for your needs, then this might be the one to go for. Besides the display, this Chromebook also comes packing USB Type-C ports and a very durable build quality. Inside, you can expect to find 4GB RAM, 16GB storage and an Intel Celeron 3855U processor.

4. Acer Chromebook R 13

Up until now, most of the Chromebooks on this list have focused on price. The further up the list we go now though, the less price becomes a main factor. Which brings us to the Acer Chromebook R 13. This is a Chromebook which places form at its heart, as it is one which can be used in a variety of different positions. So for those looking for a Chromebook that can be used in a tablet position, a tented position, or of course - in a Chromebook position, the Acer Chromebook R 13 is one of those Chromebooks. In terms of its more general specs, this is a Chromebook which comes loaded with a 13.3-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage and a MediaTek (MT8173C) quad-core processor. At present, this one will cost you north of $350.

3. Acer Chromebook 14

For those looking for the Acer style and design but not looking to spend quite as much as the Chromebook R13 costs, then it is worth taking a closer look at the Acer Chromebook 14 as this one is currently priced around the $270 mark - which is one of the cheapest price points this Chromebook has been at since its release. For that price, this is a very solid option for those looking for one. This is a traditional style Chromebook and one which comes with an excellent and stylish build quality. That is, in addition to being of the larger Chromebooks on this list thanks to the inclusion of a 14-inch display and an increased 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, this is also a fairly spec competitive Chromebook as it comes packing 4GB RAM, 32GB storage and an Intel Celeron N3160 processor.

2. ASUS Chromebook Flip C302

Up next is the ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 and this is currently one of the most popular choices around. Partly, due to this also being one of the newest Chromebook to be released. Either way, this is right now one of the best Chromebooks that you can buy, although it will cost you $499 to do so. For that money though, you are getting the best of all the Chromebook selling points. First up, this is a Chromebook which comes equipped with a rotating 360-degree hinge which allows the Chromebook to be used in a multitude of positions. In addition, this is a Chromebook which comes with an excellent build quality in general and a battery that can last for up to 10 hours before needing to be charged again. Add to that a 12.5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, as well as 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and an Intel Core processor, and this becomes a seriously good option to consider.

1. Samsung Chromebook Pro/Plus

The Samsung Chromebook Plus only became available to buy very recently, following its CES 2017 unveiling. However, immediately after becoming available to pre-order, this became the number one Chromebook for us. A month later and there is no change at the top with the Chromebook Plus once again being our number one Chromebook choice. Although since its entry into the top position last month, the Chromebook Plus has now gone on general sale and so there is no longer any waiting issues when ordering. In terms of what you get, this is a Chromebook which comes loaded with a 12.3-inch display and a 2400 x 1600 resolution. You can also expect to get 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, and even a stylus which can be used with the Chromebook. Like the previous ASUS option, this Chromebook also comes equipped with its own rotating hinge so that it can be used in more positions than a traditional Chromebook can. The downside, like the ASUS Chromebook, the Samsung Chromebook Plus is not a cheap Chromebook and does currently cost $449 to buy.
