The 'Ultimate Moto Z Mod' Adds Wireless Charging & IR Blaster

The Ultimate Moto Z Mod with Wireless Charging is currently an early prototype Moto Mod that is now listed on Indiegogo and one which look to offer Moto Z smartphone owners wireless charging and IR functionality. The listing explains that this is one of the Moto Mod ideas which was selected by Motorola as part of their 'Mod the smartphone' challenge and is therefore, an idea which Motorola saw as one with merit. One of the big selling points behind this particular Moto Mod is that in spite of offering wireless charging and IR functionality (which will allow you to control your TV), the Moto Mod is designed to make use of a form factor which is no different to a device that does not sport the Mod. Essentially, offering Moto Z owners the added features in a shell which is "barely thicker than the existing style shells".

The Ultimate Moto Z Mod with Wireless Charging is now available to be backed for as little as $35 for a received unit, or at $10 for those who just want to support the idea and help it gain enough funding to get past the prototype stage. Although it is worth pointing out that the $35 model is only for a Mod that supports wireless charging. If you would prefer the dual functionality Mod (wireless charging and IR), the price is $45 for one shell and $85 for two. As with any crowd-funded product though, it is always worth keeping in mind that backing does not guarantee you will receive the item. Either way, you can check out a prototype of The Ultimate Moto Z Mod with Wireless Charging in the video below.

As mentioned, this particular Mod was selected as part of an outreach program Motorola offers to developers. An approach which largely looks to achieve two things. The first is to expand the number of Moto Mods that are available to the Moto Z line of devices, while the second is to reach out to a wider pool of developers with a view to identifying Moto Mod ideas that might not have made it naturally through the Motorola ranks. A Moto Mod which adds functionality but not size being a prime example. Motorola has spent a good part of the last year publicizing the program and there has been a number of interesting Moto Mods ideas that have gained attention as a result.
