Design firm QuirkLogic has spent the last three years working hand in hand with E Ink on creating a 42-inch whiteboard, and the Quilla is the fruit of that labor. The magic of E Ink allows for clearly readable digital displays, while digital writing solutions, along with tactile feedback and various build materials for digital displays, allow the reproduction of an authentic pen and paper experience with all of the benefits of digital resources. Put those things together, and you have a versatile, natural, and easy to read whiteboard. This particular model is large enough to occupy the front wall of a classroom or boardroom, allowing for the sharing of ideas just as naturally as a regular whiteboard, with none of the hassle, and all of the benefits of going digital thanks to a suite of IoT features.
The Quilla features a 42 inch surface with a resolution of 2,160 x 2,880, for a total DPI of 85. While this may not be optimal for viewing media or doing anything particularly fancy, but for taking notes, drawing things, and displaying business and school materials, it should be more than sufficient. The display can not only be turned in either portrait or landscape orientation depending on a customer's needs, it can be segmented into separate workspaces for more efficient use, or to display multiple items. Users' content is stored on the device so that it can fade into the background and be pulled back up as needed.
The Quilla is the world's very first large, battery operated e-writer surface with a persistent memory, taking advantage of power-sipping E Ink technology for its long battery life and to retain data over time. Data that's stored in the Quilla can be transferred around as a user wishes, and users can collaborate remotely through centralized libraries. Multiple Quilla devices can also communicate and be used together, allowing for massive shared workspaces that boast linked data storage in real time. The Quilla is always on, easy to mount to a wall or space, and weighs a fairly light 22 pounds, making it one of the most versatile large e-writers on the market. Quilla will be available some time in the 2nd quarter of 2017.
