Samsung listed the entry-level Galaxy J3 Emerge for pre-orders on its official US website. The device was earlier expected to arrive at Sprint and its two prepaid subsidiaries on Jan 6. Now that the smartphone is finally available for pre-orders, it sports a price tag of $234.99 and is being offered in three different versions that are compatible with Sprint, Boost, and Virgin. Best Buy has also listed the smartphone on its website at the exact same price, and the retailer is also offering buyers the option of signing up for Sprint's device payment plan. The plan makes the handset available for zero down and $7 per month for two years. Consumers looking to get their hands on the Galaxy J3 Emerge will get the best value for their money from Sprint's online store where it's currently on sale for just $168.
Samsung, Sprint, and Best Buy say they'll start shipping the device by January 23. The phone is available for pre-orders in only a single color – Silver – and there's no word on whether other options will be available in the future. The Galaxy J3 Emerge features a 5-inch 720p display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. The handset ships with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage expandable by up to 256GB thanks to its microSD card slot. That hardware is powered by a 2,600mAh battery and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The OS is likely reskinned with the company's TouchWiz UI.
As for the imaging options on the Galaxy J3 Emerge, its rear-facing camera comes with a 5-megapixel sensor that sports an aperture of f/1.9 and a conventional LED flash, whereas the front-facing shooter is a 2-megapixel unit with an aperture of f/2.2. It's not yet known whether the device will sport a USB Type-C port or a traditional micro USB port for charging and data syncing. There's also no mention of a fingerprint scanner or an NFC chip. Having a 5-inch display means the phone is relatively compact in its dimensions, measuring 140.9mm in length, 70.1mm in width, and 8.7mm in thickness. The Galaxy J3 Emerge weighs 147 grams according to the listing published on Samsung's website.
