CES 2017: Sen.se Intros SleepPeanut & MedPeanut Smart Sensors

An Internet of Things manufacturer Sen.se just announced two new products, the SleepPeanut smart tag for tracking sleep cycles and the MedPeanut sensor for medication tracking. Both devices are being showcased at CES 2017 and both will launch globally in the coming months. The SleepPeanut and MedPeanut were designed to be easy to use and affordable, and are aimed at people who are just getting started with IoT devices.

The SleepPeanut is a tiny 2-inch tag which users can easily carry with them anywhere they go. Sen.se designed this sensor to be as simple as possible, so no complicated setup is required to get it to work. Once the SleepPeanut is powered on, attached to a mattress, and connected with an Android smartphone or a tablet, the device acts independently. It tracks body heat and motion to identify users' sleeping habits and utilizes machine learning to get better at recognizing individual patterns with time. Once it gets going, the SleepPeanut can detect when you get into bed, start sleeping, wake up, and get up. The device sends all of the collected information on your sleep habits to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Using a dedicated app, users can review their sleep history and set up several different alarms. In addition to a regular smartphone alarm, the SleepPeanut itself also supports a subtle clicking alarm suitable for people who sleep lightly and don't want to wake their partners when they're getting up. The SleepPeanut will launch by the end of the month, priced at $29.99.

Sen.se's other newly announced product is the MedPeanut. This portable sensor also takes the form of a two-inch tag and is intended to be attached to any regular pill container which it then turns into a smart pillbox. Once attached, the MedPeanut is connected to an Android smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. After a user inputs their medication schedule, the sensor will send them timely reminders to take their pills and can be reused on as many containers as desired. The MedPeanut is slated to be released in April and will also be priced at $29.99. Sen.se confirmed that both of its latest offerings will be available for purchase directly through the company's website and Amazon, while other retail partners will be announced at a later date.
