There's a lot that's happened in the past week in the world of Android, with some of it simply being rumors while some of it may be a bit of a letdown to consumers. The letdown in particular is of course referring to the loss of Pebble as a company, as they were confirmed to be acquired by Fitbit this past week and then confirmed they would be shutting down the business, while also no longer promoting, manufacturing, or selling hardware. Beyond Pebble, there were some fun things which happened in the past week. Netflix finally launched their VR-based app for the Daydream platform, which means anyone with a Daydream compatible phone and the Daydream View headset can sit down and enjoy watching their favorite Netflix shows in virtual reality.
In addition to Netflix for the Daydream platform, Google announced a handful of new Daydream apps and games this past week, including Gunjack 2 and HBO Now VR, while also launching the two remaining colors of the Daydream View headset, Crimson and Snow. The 2016 YouTube Rewind was also this past week, which as always shows a big mashup of the most popular videos from the entire year, and even includes some of the people in those videos. A new rumor surfaced stating that Samsung would be launching two folding smartphones with one of them being launched in 2017, while Samsung also confirmed that they would be shutting down the remaining Galaxy Note 7 devices in the US.
