The Galaxy S8 rumors are off the hook. Needless to say, Samsung's 'Galaxy S' smartphones are amongst the most popular devices in the smartphone world, and this year's Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have been immensely successful for the company, unlike the Galaxy Note 7. In any case, considering the fact that the Galaxy Note 7 failed spectacularly, all eyes are pointed towards the Galaxy S8, and Samsung has to deliver in order to make up for the Galaxy Note 7. We've seen tons of rumors thus far reporting various details about the phone, and a new such rumor just surfaced, read on.
This time around, the info comes straight from Korea Herald, and the publication claims that Samsung plans to release only a curved display variant of the Galaxy S8. Having that in mind, the company allegedly also plans to release two variants of the device, a 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch models which will have a high screen-to-body ratio, over 90% if the source is to be believed, which means that the Galaxy S8's screen-to-body ratio could be comparable to the one we've seen on the Xiaomi Mi MIX. Now, some analysts are kind of worried when it comes to this, as they seem to think Samsung should stick to both flat and curved variants. Choo Dae-young, an analyst at Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade, seems to think that the demand for curved display smartphones is not all that high, at least not high enough for Samsung to make a curved display model only, and this makes sense. The Galaxy S7 Edge might have outsold the Galaxy S7, but both devices were extremely popular.
Mr. Dae-young is not the only analyst that is worried, NH Investment & Securities' Peter Less did not exactly comment on the flat-screened Galaxy S8, but he did mention that Samsung needs to get their foldable phone out to the market as soon as possible. All in all, we'll see what happens, but in recent rumors, only two variants of the Galaxy S8 are mentioned, the 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch variants, which is odd. The Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1-inch display, while the Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a 5.5-inch panel, so it doesn't exactly seem right to bump up the Galaxy S line all the way to 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch variants, and completely disregard smaller models. In any case, we'll see what happens in the coming months, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 smartphone(s) either during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) next year or in April.
