ONvocal's OV Headphones Come Equipped With Amazon’s Alexa

ONvocal today announced the launch of a new product dubbed OV. While this is a new pair of headphones, it is one which is unlike most other pairs of headphones, as they are ‘intelligent headphones’. What makes them so intelligent is that they come equipped with Amazon’s Alexa functionality. Offering consumers a way to make use of Alexa pretty much anywhere and everywhere.

As ONvocal's OV makes use of Alexa Voice Services (AVS) as a built-in feature, this means that the headphones are able to connect to a multitude of devices and online services. Likewise, due to Alexa’s Skills bank now reaching in excess of 5000 skills, the OV headphones offer a unique way to capitalize on various third-party integrations, including the ability to order a ride through Lyft or order a pizza through Domino’s. As well of course, allowing the user to listen to their music in a traditional headphone manner. In addition, there is also an OV Android app that is now available, which can connect to the headphones for an improved level of control and richer user experience. In terms of their design and due to their unique functionality, the OV headphones also come with a fairly unique design and possibly one which will not be to the liking of everyone. As the headphones come equipped with a microphone on one side, a touch panel on the opposite side (which is used to activate Alexa functionality) as well as a sort of neck band which helps to keep the headphones in place.

These are also not the most affordable set of headphones as they do cost $399 to buy. At the moment, the OV headphones are only available to pre-order, although ONvocal does note that shipping of pre-orders is due to commence from January 10, 2017. However, ONvocal also notes that the OV headphones will only initially be available in ‘limited quantities’ and pre-orders will be fulfilled on a first-come-first-served basis. It is also worth pointing out that ONvocal is currently only taking pre-orders from interested customers who are based in the US, with no firm details provided on when, or if, the OV headphones will become available in other regions.
