2017: Kickstart The New Year With Android

The end of the year is now here. Which also means the start of the new year is here as well. A time when many of us tend to evaluate the year that has gone and look forward to the year that is yet to come. While also starting to figure out what we would like to do during the upcoming year, or what we would like to do differently and do better. For some, the new year is a prime example to finally get around to some of the things that they might have been putting off during the last year... or longer. If that sounds like you, then it is worth keeping in mind that some of the tools you have around you can be a big help in making sure you do get 2017 off to a flying start. Your smartphone being one of the most useful and powerful tools that you now have. With that in mind, here are just some of the ways in which you can kickstart 2017 with Android.

Fitness and the gym

If heading out to the gym more often (or for the first time) is one of the things that is on your to-do list in 2017, then there are plenty of ways in which you can make use of Android as a means to get your exercise program off the ground. In fact, over the past year there has been massive developments on the Android front and none more so, than with apps.

Fitness Apps

When embarking on a new exercise program there is probably two types of apps you want to consider having. One is a fitness tracking app of some sort. One that can provide you with real time-feedback on your routines including your heart rate, calories burnt, steps taken and so on. While the other is a good music app. Having access to a wide range of your favorite tracks as well as feedback on how your exercise is going could be one of the defining differences when it comes to keeping motivated about your gym and exercise ambitions. While there are plenty of fitness tracking and music apps available, ones that are certainly worth considering is Google Fit and Spotify. The first is a Google app which looks to offer real-time feedback and can provide a decent overview over time, while the second will provide you with access to all the motivational music you need - and even offers a free version where you can just listen to curated playlists.

Fitness tracker

One of the easiest ways to stay gym-motivated is by using a fitness tracker as these provide real-time feedback on what you have achieved and how much you are improving. There are multiples ways in which you can make use of fitness tracking features, but a standalone wearable fitness tracker is going to be one of the most effective. Likewise, there are plenty of fitness trackers available on the market and especially from Fitbit. To name one in particular, the Fitbit Charge 2 has proven to be a reliable and popular option. Not only is this a nice-performing device, but it is also a sleek and nice-looking device. The Fitbit Charge 2 will track all your daily aspects like steps, distance, calories, and so on, but will also provide you with call, text and other notifications. Although, there are quite a lot of alternative fitness trackers worth considering.

Headphones

One of the last major items that might be of use for you when hitting the gym is a new pair of headphones. Having the apps and the music ready to go is one thing, but getting the best sound you can might be the difference in staying motivated in going to the gym. If nothing else, it will help you enjoy those gym visits as much as possible. One option certainly worth checking out is the UA Wireless Heart Rate headphones. Not only are these excellent sounding Bluetooth headphones, but they also come with a built-in heart rate monitor. So coupled with a good monitoring app (and a good music app) and you could probably omit the fitness tracker altogether.

Start a new hobby or learn to cook

Another popular resolution for the new year will likely be learning a new skill or taking up a new hobby. Of course, when it comes to new skills and hobbies, the list you can choose from is endless. Although, one feature that might be on your radar is to learn to cook, or just improve your cooking skills in general. Even more so, for those who are also planning to hit the gym more often in 2017. As it is not only about exercising, but also eating more healthy. And once again, there are plenty of ways in which Android can help you.

Recipe apps

The most obvious of which is the ever-increasing list of recipe apps that are now available for Android. For every cuisine you can think of, there is a recipe (and an app) for you to get to grips with. The benefit of these apps is that they are always there in your pocket when needed. And unlike a ‘learn to cook’ book, there is no need to write out a long shopping list of ingredients. Once you have the app installed and your favorite recipe bookmarked, head to the supermarket, fire up the app and the ingredients are there waiting for you. Get back home, get ready to start cooking, fire up the app and the recipe instructions are there waiting for you. It is just all there, ready and waiting.

Learn to cook with YouTube

Although, another extremely useful way of improving your cooking skills (or learning any new hobby for that matter) is to turn to YouTube. The video uploading platform has become a great source of information in recent years and you can now find endless videos on how to do just about anything. Including cooking your next gourmet meal, with detailed step by step instructions and more. So combining both the numerous recipe and information apps available from the Google Play Store, along with the numerous how to videos available on Android, whether you are wanting to learn to cook, or learn anything else in 2017, your smartphone and other Android-powered devices will be able to help.

Find a job

Of course, maybe you are considering a much bigger change in 2017, than simply heading to the gym or learning to cook. Maybe you are far more interested in changing your job or career in the new year? If that is the case, then there are plenty of ways in which Android can help you do that as well. In fact, there are a serious number of ways in which your smartphone can help.

Job search apps

While writing out your resume on your smartphone is not the easiest (and probably not the wisest) of things to do, there are a number of apps available for job recruiting and searching websites. These will allow you to upload your resume and send it off to any and every company who is hiring. So regardless of how little time you have to look for a new job, having the ability to send your resume to a new job opening at your fingertips, is a good thing. Once uploaded and ready to go, it literally takes seconds to send off your resume.

Job social apps

Likewise, most of the same apps will also provide you with ways in which you can keep on top of all the new jobs that come through. Sometimes being first to apply can make a big difference and the one surefire way to make sure you are first to find out about the latest job openings, is to turn on the notification feature for these apps. This way, you will be able to stay informed on when new jobs pop up. Although, what is probably the easier and one of the most effective ways is to make sure that you are out there on job based social sites. Like for instance, LinkedIn. This is largely one of the best ways to keep the working world informed on who you are, what you can do, and your achievements. While also meeting and getting in touch with like-industry people. Sometimes it is not what you know, but who you know and apps like LinkedIn is one of the best ways to get to know more people in your industry.

Wrap up

Of course, the ways in which you might be considering kickstarting 2017 are endless and so all the possibilities cannot really be discussed here. But the good news is that however you are thinking of changing things up in 2017, chances are good that there is an app out there ready to help you. The world in which we now live in is one where your Android smartphone can assist in just about anything and everything you want to do. While the examples listed above are fairly specific, whatever your 2017 goals are, consider your smartphone as one of the essential tools to help you achieve them.
