While smartphones may not be suitable for playing all genres of games, point-and-click adventures mostly work great on touch screen devices. Mobile game developers are well-aware of that fact, which is why we've received some high-quality Android adventures in recent years. As luck would have it, another such title just appeared on the Google Play Store yesterday. The game in question is called 1979 Revolution: Black Friday and follows a photojournalist Reza Shirazi who finds himself in the middle of the Iranian Revolution, a movement to overthrow the ruling Pahlavi dynasty in Iran in the late 70s.
While this is technically a story-driven adventure, the game was produced as a documentary, so expect a lot of great photography and intense camera work while you follow the story of your troubled protagonist. In addition to traditional genre elements, 1979 Revolution: Black Friday also takes some cues from Telltale's creations in the sense that it asks players to make critical decisions in a limited amount of time. All of your choices affect the story in some significant ways, so in addition to being really intense, they also add a lot of replay value to the game. Interestingly enough, 1979 Revolution: Black Friday hides quite a bit of actual footage of the Iranian Revolution which is scattered throughout the game, so it offers an interesting mix of fictional and historical experiences.
The game originally debuted on Steam back in April and was mostly met with universal praise from both gamers and critics alike, especially due to its morally ambiguous characters. It also received a number of indie games awards over the course of this year so all in all, 1979 Revolution: Black Friday certainly seems like it's worth giving a shot if you're a fan of story-driven adventure games. The game is now available for download from the Google Play Store and sports a $5.99 price tag. While there are no in-app purchases included in 1979 Revolution: Black Friday, note that this title is rather demanding when it comes to hardware requirements. More specifically, you'll need a device with at least 3GB of RAM and a GPU in the Mali-T760MP8 range if you'll want to play 1979 Revolution: Black Friday without any issues.
