It seems like a bezel-less smartphone is becoming a trend in China. Xiaomi launched the borderless Mi MIX phablet last month in a bold move to shun the traditional bordered design common among the majority of mobile devices. But it looks like the Chinese phone maker is not alone in this innovation, as Meizu appears to be gearing up for the debut of its own version of an edgeless phone called the PRO 7, according to leaked images posted on Weibo. This is not the first time, however, that images of the phone leaked. Earlier this month, photos of a borderless handset also surfaced on Weibo, but there was no mention about its name and specs back then. The newly leaked images offer more details.
Based on the leaked photos, the Meizu PRO 7 is supposed to sport a Super AMOLED display with an odd dimension of 5.62-inch and 2160 x 1080 pixels of resolution. The unusual screen size may be necessary in this case to accommodate the high surface to body ratio required for bezel-less phones. The images also suggest the upcoming flagship is 6.4-millimeter thin and will come in two versions: one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage and another with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The Meizu PRO 7 is also said to show off a 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front shooter. Other key specs of the phone are not known as of this time, including the processor and battery, though it is rumored to come with the mCharge 4.0 technology that can supposedly power up the phone to 100% within just 40 minutes. Also, given that its predecessor Meizu PRO 6s is powered by a Helio X25 CPU, it might be safe to assume the upcoming flagship will also pack another MediaTek chipset under the hood. The PRO 7 is supposed to run the Flyme 5.1 operating system and pack an Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor concealed beneath the Home button.
As for the availability and price points, the smartphone is expected to see the light of day on December 24 (even though Meizu's VP recently said that it will launch next year), contrary to the previously rumored launch date in September. The PRO 7 is rumored to bear two price tags: 2699 Yuan ($395) for the 64GB model and 3099 Yuan ($455) for the 128GB variant. While the upcoming phone does not promise any unique concept, the borderless design is still a stunning twist for consumers who have seen enough of the repetitive concept designs for smartphones.
