OnePlus had introduced two smartphones this year, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. The former was introduced back in June, while the latter arrived only a couple of days ago. After the company introduced the OnePlus 3, we did not really expect them to release a more powerful variant of that phone this year, but they did. The two devices are identical in terms of the design and dimensions, and are different only in terms of the SoC, front-facing camera and battery size, while the OnePlus 3T comes in both 64GB and 128GB storage variants. On the other hand, the OnePlus 3 comes only in a 64GB storage flavor.
That being said, the company had promised to release software updates for both devices at the same time, or at least approximately same time, which was to be expected considering these two devices are extremely similar. In any case, the company had promised they’ll release Android 7.0 Nougat-based OxygenOS update by the end of this year, and the beta version should become available really soon, before the end of this month. Well, it seems like a new beta update is available for the OnePlus 3, but it’s not based on Android 7.0 Nougat, sadly. If you’re running a beta version of OxygenOS you can update to version 3.5.5, the update is officially called OxygenOS 3.5.5 Open Beta 7. Despite the fact we’re not looking at Android 7.0 Nougat update here, this update does bring quite a few improvements and additions to the experience. The updated version of OxygenOS adds the audio tuner and a background app freezing mechanism. In addition to that, you’ll also get a redesigned clock UI and accent color.
This update brings along Google’s security patch for October, while it fixes a number of issues with OnePlus’ OxygenOS skin. OnePlus has fixed the black screen issues when exiting games in a horizontal orientation, which has been a real pain for some people for a while now. This update also fixed some launcher-related crashes, and it also increases the stability of OxygenOS, plus it fixes some less important bugs which were not detailed by the company. If you’re running a beta version of OxygenOS on your OnePlus 3, you should be able to update to OxygenOS 3.5.5 Open Beta 7 as we speak, if not, you will be soon, as the company is rolling out this update in stages.
