OnePlus announced an upgraded version of the OnePlus 3 by introducing the OnePlus 3T smartphone couple of weeks ago; the device features a more powerful SoC, improved camera and larger battery compared to the OnePlus 3, which was launched back in June this year. The OnePlus 3T is already available for the purchase in the US, while starting today, the device is now also available in Europe and Hong Kong as well. While the device is not available for purchase in many markets yet, it appears that the team behind the popular custom recovery, TWRP, has now come up with an official custom recovery for the OnePlus 3T, that means folks will be able to flash custom ROMs as soon as they got their devices.
As always, installing a custom recovery will require an unlocked bootloader so be sure to unlock your OnePlus 3T before you flash TWRP recovery. Assuming you already have an unlocked bootloader, you can flash TWRP recovery image by executing fastboot/adb commands which will replace your stock recovery with the highly customizable and more advanced TWRP recovery. With a custom recovery like TWRP recovery, you can flash custom ROMs, take a full backup of the current system, install custom kernels and even gain root access. Keep in mind that this custom recovery is only available for the OnePlus 3T so don't try to install it on the OnePlus 3. Also, the stock boot image on the OnePlus 3T has dm-verity so enabling system modifications will cause the system to boot loop so if you're not looking to root your device, be sure to not to enable system modifications in the recovery. Talking about the features, TWRP recovery for the OnePlus 3T comes with a host of features such as MTP support, USB OTG support, Qualcomm based full-disk encryption support, f2fs file system support, exFAT file system support, ADB root, full SELinux support, built-in Android 6.0 device tree and supports flashing full OTA packages.
Since this is just a very first release of the TWRP recovery for the OnePlus 3T, some things might be little rough around the edges.
