Motorola to Launch New "Connect Coin" Wearable Soon

Wearables come in all shapes and sizes, not to mention all kinds of designs as well as different functionalities. There are fitness trackers and smartwatches, smart glasses in the works from the makers of Snapchat and even smart shoes on the market. Something that might not be considered a wearable in the purest sense would be a keychain of some sort, which is just what the upcoming "Connect Coin" from Motorola appears to be. A follow-up to the 2014 Keylink accessory, which allowed users to add it to their keys to help them find their lost car keys or their phone, the Connect Coin appears to be competing product to the likes of the Tile.

TechDroider have managed to get their hands on what looks like official marketing material prior to an official launch, including a simple page that outlines what the Connect Coin is all about. Running on a CR2032 button-cell battery, the Connect Coin will use Bluetooth 4.0LE to connect to your smartphone, and has a few more tricks up its sleeve than just finding your phone in the same apartment or building. The Connect Coin can be used to control both the shutter inside the camera app as well as your playing music, and there's even the option to use it to find where you parked your car. This feature will work by connecting to your phone and remember the last known GPS location of the Connect Coin, provided you've left it behind in the car, that is. The Safe Zone feature sounds interesting as well, and will enable users to choose a safe WiFi network for the office or the home, and when you've left the Connect Coin behind, attached to your keys or your purse, you'll get an alert on your smartphone, which suggests the Connect Coin will also feature WiFi, too.

Sm,art gadgets like this make for excellent gifts, and while they're not in the same league as a smartwatch or fitness tracker, they do offer some genuine functionality to users. According to the leak, this is an accessory that is going to be taken care of by Binatone, much like the VerveLife line of Bluetooth headphones and accessories. With a launch slated before the end of the year, this is something that could still sell well this Holiday season depending on when the item is launched.

Android saved me from the boredom of iOS years ago and I love watching the platform grow. As an avid reader and writer nothing pleases me more than to write about the exciting world of Android, Google and mobile technology as a whole.
