Google Has Opened Up Pre-Orders For Google Wifi

If you've been looking for a way to replace your wireless router at home and have been set on Google Wifi, which is Google's new "whole home" solution to your wireless network needs, both the single unit and the three-pack are now available to pre-order through various retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and the Google Store website. As was already confirmed by Google some time ago, you can pick up one Google Wifi access point router for just $129, which should be more than suitable for smaller homes and apartments that are less than 1,500 square feet, according to Google's landing page for Google Wifi.

Of course, if you need to cover more area, you can opt for two single units, or you can simply pick up the three-pack which should be best suited for larger homes with quite a few rooms, up to 4,500 square feet. Google states that each Google Wifi access point should be placed with two rooms worth of space in between each other for an optimal experience, something which Google explained in their recent video that was posted to YouTube on how to set up Google Wifi in the home if you were considering picking up the device. This is also explained on the Google Wifi landing page along with plenty of other details about the product.

Pre-orders going live today were suspected to be just around the corner as Google had previously noted before that the pre-orders would start this month, while units would begin shipping and officially launch sometime in December. Google Wifi also made a stop at the FCC yesterday which suggested that pre-orders and a launch were nearby. Setting these up is rather easy as all you have to do is plug the device into the power source, connect it to your modem, and then open the Google Wifi companion app to let it do the rest of the work. If you have one access point, it stops there, otherwise you'll be walked through setting up additional access points after the first, and the app will handle finishing off the configuration for those as well. These do replace any existing routers you may have, so aside from the modem, you won't need any other wireless network equipment with Google Wifi.
