Xiaomi is one of the most popular smartphone manufacturers in China, even though some other companies have sold more devices in China than Xiaomi in the first half of 2016, Xiaomi is still a force to be reckoned with, and the company is aiming to improve their performance in the second half of this year with some help from the Xiaomi Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, and the upcoming Mi Note 2. That being said, Xiaomi has been trying to improve their situation in India, the second largest smartphone market in the world. Xiaomi has been investing quite a bit of money in their India business, and they have been manufacturing devices in that Indian country for quite some time now.
That being said, it seems like Xiaomi is selling quite a few phones in India, and their sales have been through the roof during the festive season (Diwali). The company is claiming that they've sold more than 1 million devices in India in only 18 days (October 1st – October 18th), and 500,000 of those were sold between October 1st and October 3rd (festive sales). This information was shared by Xiaomi India's official Twitter profile, and the company's CEO, Lei Jun, actually wrote an open letter to its employees in order to commemorate this success. "Yesterday we set an incredible record in India by selling more than 1 million smartphones within 18 days. On behalf of Xiaomi's management, I'd like to congratulate the entire Mi India team for this outstanding performance. A big round of thanks to Manu and Hugo for their outstanding leadership, to everyone at Mi India for their dedication, and to the business teams in China for their support. I am extremely proud of each one of you! I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our partners in India, especially Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, for their support. And very importantly, I wish to thank every Indian Mi fan for the love they have shown to Xiaomi, which is the driving force behind our success," said Lei Jun. This is only a part of Lei Jun's letter to his employees and Mi fans, if you'd like to read the whole thing, follow the source link down below.
Xiaomi became the first smartphone manufacturer to participate in India's 'Make in India' initiative back in August 2015. The company had managed to become the first online smartphone brand in India back in August 2016, and now they've sold 1 million devices in only 18 days. It seems like Xiaomi is doing great in India, and it will be interesting to see what comes next.
