At IFA in early September, Samsung announced two new smartwatches. There was the Gear S3 Classic and then the Gear S3 Frontier. The main difference between the two is the fact that the Gear S3 Classic looks more like a traditional watch, while the Gear S3 Frontier is made for those that are a big more rugged. It's great for going on hikes, and spending loads of time outdoors. Due to that, Samsung has opted to make the Gear S3 Frontier available with 4G LTE. While the Gear S3 Classic will not have 4G LTE and will need a WiFi connection. This means that you could go out for a run with the Gear S3 Frontier on your wrist and leave your phone at home, but you can't with the Gear S3 Classic.
The Gear S3 Frontier also comes with a darker colored casing, compared to the Gear S3 Classic. Surprisingly, they are priced the same, at least in the UK. Samsung has put the two smartwatches up for pre-order today in the UK, and we're looking at £349 for each model. That translates to about $425 USD. Samsung also has a promotional offer for those that pre-order the Gear S3 Classic or Gear S3 Frontier. The first 1,000 people will be able to pick up a pair of the Level Active headphones for free. These headphones are typically $100, so that's a pretty great gift to have included with the pre-order of one of the new smartwatches from Samsung. There's no word just yet on other retailers in the UK having it up for pre-order, or it being available in other regions just yet. But that will likely change in the very near future.
Following the Gear S2, Samsung kept some aspects of that smartwatch on the Gear S3 family, but changed a few things. For instance, the Gear S2 was smaller, but the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier are both larger. This is mostly due to the larger battery inside. There's a 380mAh battery inside, which Samsung quotes as lasting about 3 to 4 days on a single charge. This is powering the 1.3-inch 360×360 display which has Corning's Gorilla Glass SR+ to protect it. Keep in mind that the Gear S3 Classic and Gear S3 Frontier do run Tizen and not Android Wear.
