It looks like Android 7.0 Nougat is just landed on the Nexus 6 device as several users are now reporting that they’re now receiving OTA update message on their Nexus 6 devices. On top of that, Google now also lists both factory and OTA update packages on its Google Developers site as well. Read on.

The update is now rolling out incrementally for the Nexus 6 and carries build number NBD90Z and weighs in at 868 MB. In case you’re not aware, Android 7.0 Nougat was launched back in October and while the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, Nexus 9 (WiFi) and Google Pixel C tablet has already got their updates in a phased roll out, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 (LTE) were missing from the Google’s update roster due to technical issues. In any case, Nexus 6 users will appreciate that they have now the official Android 7.0 Nougat update available for their devices. As always, the case with the OTA (over-the-air) updates, this update will roll out in phases and might take some time to make its way to your device. Also, the update seems to be rolling out to all users, regardless of whether they’re part of the Google Beta program or not. If you don’t yet receive any update message on your Nexus 6, you can also manually check for an update, for this, go to settings then scroll to the bottom and hit About Phone then select System Updates to see whether an update is available for your device. Alternatively, you can also install this update by flashing OTA image on your device if you can’t wait for the update to hit your device – hit the link below to download OTA image for the Nexus 6.

As a refresher, the update will bring many new features and improvements over the Android Marshmallow update. You will get improved Doze mode – which now even works when your device is sitting in your pocket, Multi-window mode for better multitasking, bundled notifications & Quick Reply, Vulkan API support (only on supported devices), Data saver mode and many under-the-hood optimizations to improve the performance and stability. Unfortunately, the Nexus 9 (LTE) still don’t seem to have an update to Android 7.0 Nougat rolling out, but considering the Nexus 6 is now receiving the update, it shouldn’t take much longer to appear.
