Xiaomi's Mi 5s Flagship Gets The Teardown Treatment

Xiaomi had introduced several new products two days ago, two new flagships and two new smart TVs. During the press event in China, the company had announced the Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus flagship handsets, along with the 55-inch and 65-inch Mi TV 3S smart TVs. That being said, we’ve already covered both of those launches extensively, and are here to talk more about a specific handset, the Xiaomi Mi 5s, considering that the first teardown of this smartphone has just popped up, read on.

The Xiaomi Mi 5s got dismantled by the hands of people over at IT168, a China-based tech site which usually handles teardowns of Chinese devices, they’re usually first to do it. That being said, you’ll get to see a ton of images in the gallery down below, which will show you the whole teardown procedure, and will, hopefully, help you do the same if you need to fix something at some point. These images will also give you a good idea of how easy / difficult it is to dismantle the Xiaomi Mi 5s. Now, first and foremost, the source dismantled the most powerful variant of the Mi 5s handset, the one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The first thing you need to do is to take out the SIM tray, and tackle the two screws that are placed on the bottom of the device. Once you do that, you’ll be able to pry open the Xiaomi Mi 5s, it’s that simple. Xiaomi really didn’t complicate this procedure all too much, and the battery is also fairly easy to replace from this point on. More or less every component on the device is quite easy to replace, though some parts are a bit more challenging to separate due to the adhesive Xiaomi used. In any case, the Xiaomi Mi 5s shouldn’t be all that difficult to repair if something goes wrong at some point, and that’s the main takeaway from this teardown.

The Xiaomi Mi 5s sports a 5.15-inch fullHD display, 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of native storage. This smartphone is fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core SoC, and comes with a 3,200mAh battery. The phone also ships with the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and a pressure sensitive display. The 12-megapixel camera is placed on the back of this phone, and a 4-megapixel snapper can be found up front. Click here if you’d like to know more about Mi 5s’ specs.
