It's the first day of September and Google has prepared a fresh newsletter, highlighting the top trending applications throughout the month of August, and giving app hunters and enthusiasts a glimpse of what new items should arrive in the Google Play Store in the coming months.
Starting off with the top trending applications in the month of August, the September newsletter mentions four applications including "Prisma". Prisma is a photo editing application released on the Android platform earlier this summer, and was also mentioned in the previous Google Play newsletter for the month of July. Prisma is followed by the "ESPN Fantasy Football" application for NFL fans, and the third top trending app in the month of August was "Canvas"; an application that gives users free access to Canvas massive open online courses on the go. Last but certainly not least, the fourth most trending application last month was none other than Google's new Duo application for video chat. Duo was released about two weeks ago in mid-August and is considered one of the two new messaging applications for Android 7.0 Nougat destined to replace Google Hangouts. Google Duo registered more than 5 million downloads in the first week of availability, pushing it into the list of top trending applications in less than a month of availability.
Next up we have the August top charts for the U.S. Play Store, and starting off with the top new downloaded games, "Mobius Final Fantasy" by Square Enix takes the cake, followed by "Rio 2016 Olympic Games" – an Olympic Games-inspired video game for Android smartphones, which includes a total of 6 Olympic activities like archery, basketball, football, tennis, skeet, and table tennis. The third spot is covered by "Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens", and the 4th and 5th positions are occupied by "Flip Diving" and "Steppy Pants" respectively. As for what we can expect from the Google Play Store in the foreseeable future, the newsletter mentions "Anchor.fm", "The League", and "Quartz" as three upcoming apps for Android users, and also lists three upcoming games currently available for pre-registration, namely "Pac-Man Pop" by Bandai Namco, "Fairway Solitaire" by Big Fish, and "Oz: Broken Kingdom" by Nexon M.
