Deal: Echo Dot 2nd Gen & ecobee3 Smart Thermostat $249, 09/14/16

Amazon has firmly planted their feet in the smart home industry, first with the Echo smart speaker, and then with the Echo Dot, which they just officially announced a 2nd Gen model of earlier this morning. While you can pre-order the new and less expensive Echo Dot by itself as a standalone unit, this deal centers around the 2nd Gen Echo Dot bundled with the ecobee3 smart thermostat, which is one of the smart home products that is compatible with Amazon's Alexa software to make for some great voice controlled integration. Normally these two devices together would cost $298.99, or just about $300, but right now you can actually pick them up for $249 to save nearly $50, which is also the savings you'll get on the new 2nd Gen Echo Dot.

The Echo Dot is a smaller version of the Echo and although it does not have as much functionality as the Echo, it still provides you with the ability to control things with your voice and there are quite a lot of things you can still do with it. It's capable of managing music playback, reading you the news and weather, and even controlling your smart thermostat such as the ecobee3. It's capable of hearing users from across the room using the 7 far-field mics, and if you're listening to music with the new Echo Dot, you can connect headphones or speakers to it via Bluetooth or via the 3.5mm audio port. As for the ecobee3, the smart thermostat knows when you want to manage the temperature and either increase it or decrease to fit your comfort, based on various factors like the outside weather and your energy profile.
