Over the next week it is expected that a number of new smartwatches, fitness trackers and wearables in general will be announced, unveiled and/or released during the IFA 2016 event in Berlin. However, Fossil who already has a smartwatch powered by Android Wear decided to beat the rush of announcements by announcing two of their latest smartwatches earlier this month. The two watches in question are the Fossil Q Marshal and the Fossil Q Wander. Both of these smartwatches come running on Android Wear and both saw their pre-order status going live at the time of the announcement.
As part of the pre-order announcement, Fossil also stated that the two devices would see their general availability opening up on August 29. With that date having now come and gone, both the Q Marshal and the Q Wander are now available to buy in the US without needing to pre-order. So if have had your eye on either of these smartwatches but are not one for pre-orders, then it looks like you can now add to cart, checkout and expect a timely level of shipping in return.
General speaking, the two smartwatches are somewhat alike. Besides the fact that they both come running on Android Wear, they are also both round smartwatches and both come with a 45 mm case size. Likewise, they both come with 4GB storage, Bluetooth, a 360 mAh battery and an IP67 water resistance certification. Although one notable difference is that the Q Marshal does seem to be aimed towards consumers looking for a more durable smartwatch, as it comes housed within a more rugged casing. As most of the main specs are the same, the prices of the smartwatches are also fairly similar with the Q Marshall priced at $295 and available with either a silicone, leather or stainless steel strap. While the Q Wander is also priced at $295 and is also available with a silicone, leather or stainless steel strap. For those looking for a little more glamour though, there is also a rose gold-tone stainless steel version of the Q Wander and this one is priced at $315.
