Video: ZOPO Speed 8 Review

When it comes to smartphones, the majority of them all feature basically the same specifications. But the ZOPO Speed 8 is a bit different. It's one of just a handful of smartphones that sport a deca-core processor, which is MediaTek's Helio X20 (the Helio X25 is also a deca-core processor). But the real question here is, how well does that deca-core processor perform? Does Qualcomm have anything to be worried about? Probably not. But the processor does perform very well, and it doesn't get warm at all, unlike some of Qualcomm's chips from 2015. The Helio X20 also provides some incredible standby battery life. We let the phone sit overnight and it lost just 1% of the battery, which is pretty incredible, and not something you see often. Of course it is running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, so Doze Mode is included here.

Other specs for the ZOPO Speed 8 include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 3600mAh battery powering the show. They also use a 21-megapixel sensor from Sony for the rear-facing camera, which provides some "OK" shots. They aren't anything to brag about, but they definitely get the job done. The Speed 8 offers some incredible value for its price, and that's something we've grown accustom to with smartphones coming out of Asia recently.

Battery life on the Speed 8 is relatively good. You can likely get 3-4 hours of on screen time, per battery cycle. But of course, that all depends on how you use your smartphone. Given that it has a 3600mAh battery inside, and it's powering a 5.5-inch display, we did expect a bit more from the ZOPO Speed 8, other than just "average". Perhaps they need to work on optimizing their software a bit, to get better battery life. Since ZOPO did essentially just slap AOSP onto the Speed 8. Not that is a bad thing, but it definitely needs something to stand out from the very crowded market.
