Samsung Expected To Ship 12M Galaxy Note 7 Units This Year

South Korean electronics giant, Samsung announced its latest addition to its "Note" lineup, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 yesterday at its Unpacked event which was held in New York City. Having been announced less than a day ago, the device is already up for pre-order from major North American carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and Bell. A slew of accessories are also already available for the smartphone, including from accessories manufacturers such as OtterBox and Speck. With such hype from the newly announced flagship device, Samsung is expected to ship 12 million units in the latter part of the year, according to Hyundai Securities.

Hyundai Securities is a financial investment business entity which provides financial services. According to the finance firm, Samsung is projected to ship at least 12 million Galaxy Note 7's by the end of the year. According to Kim Dong-won, an analyst at Hyundai Securities, the Galaxy Note 7 will preoccupy demand in the premium smartphone market before the launch of Apples next iPhone which is expected to be announced somewhere in September. While 12 million may seem like a huge number of devices to be shipped, this figure will not be enough to beat the 13.3 million Samsung S7 Edge units which were shipped around the world in the first six months of the year. The S7 Edge also happens to be the best selling smartphone for the first half of the year. The 12 million Galaxy Note 7 units the company is expected to ship by years end is still a pretty decent amount considering there's only five months left in the year and the device which sports a 5.7-inch display will only cater to certain people who prefer large screened smartphones.

Additionally, Kim Dong-won also expects that Samsung’s overall smartphone sales will see a modest decline in the second half of the year. He also forecasted a 10 percent decrease in operating profits for Samsung's mobile division in the third quarter of the year. This means Samsung's mobile division is forecasted to make 3.9 trillion Won ($3.48 billion) for the July-September period of the year. Samsung managed to make 8.14 trillion Won ($7.17 billion) in operating profits during the second quarter of the year thanks to the brisk sales of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
