Some Pokemon In Pokemon GO Are Harder To Catch Than Others

Pokemon GO has become a worldwide phenomenon in the past few weeks, having recently reached the 100 million download mark on the Google Play Store and it hasn't even been released in a number of markets yet. The augmented reality game requires Pokemon trainers to hunt Pokemon which have been superimposed into real-world locations by using their smartphone. Pokemon trainers can capture different Pokemon's which hide in locations suited to their species such as finding a Magikarp in a pond or river since Magikarps are suited to watery environments. However, if you play Pokemon GO and have been having difficulty in catching certain Pokemon's and feel like it is only you having the problem, it is not. As different Pokemon's are harder to catch than others.

In a video posted on YouTube, Tech Insider stated that some Reddit users have managed to extract data from the Pokemon GO game code which included base capture rate for the current 151 first generation Pokemon which are available in the game. This determines the likelihood of catching a Pokemon with the first throw of a regular PokeBall, excluding other factors such as completely throwing the PokeBall off aim. According to the game data which was extracted, Magikarp are the easiest to catch with a 56% base capture rate. Up next is Oddish which has a base capture rate of 48%. As for other Pokemon such as Caterpie, Pidgey, Weedle and Rattata, the likelihood of them being captured on your first throw of a PokeBall is at 40%. Found a Charizard or a Dragonite but didn't manage to catch either? That's alright as rare Pokemon such as Blastoise, Charizard, Dragonite and Venusaur have a low base capture rate of 4%.

Going down even further to a 0% base capture rate lies Legendary Pokemon such as Articuno, Moltres, Mew, Mewtwo and Zapdos. This likely means that these Pokemon can be acquired only if they are given away or through some sort of special event. Other factors may also affect the base capture rate of a Pokemon, such as the level of the Pokemon and the flee rate of it, the usage of Razz Berries which will boost your chances of capturing the Pokemon and also the usage of Ultra Balls and Great Balls.
