MediaTek is a Taiwan-based company which is manufacturing processors for mobile devices. This is actually one of the largest mobile SoC manufacturers out there, their chips fuel tons of devices all around the world, though they’re most used by Chinese smartphone manufacturers, which is not all that surprising. The Helio P10 and Helio X20 / X25 are MediaTek’s most popular processors at the moment, these are the company’s mid-range and flagship processor offerings, respectively. That being said, MediaTek did announce the Helio P20 back in February during the Mobile World Congress, and we’ve been waiting for the company to officially introduce the Helio X20’s successor. Well, that has just happened, let’s see what MediaTek announced, shall we.

This Taiwanese company has introduced the Helio X30 processor, which features the deca-core setup, and a tri-cluster design, just like its predecessors (Helio X20 and X25). The Helio X30 is, however, made using TSMC’s 10nm FinFET process. This SoC comes with 10 separate cores, four of them are Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.8GHz, four are Cortex A53 cores which run at 2.2GHz, and the remaining two are Cortex A35 cores and they run at 2GHz. The Helio X30 supports up to 8GB of RAM (2 x LPDDR4 POP 1600MHz channels), while we’re looking at the PowerVR 7XT GPU here, which should be more than compatible with VR devices. This SoC supports cameras sensors with up to 40 megapixels, and video capture as high as 24MP. The 16-megapixel snappers which are used with this SoC will be able to take video shots of up to 60FPS, while 8-megapixel units will receive video support of up to 120FPS. It is also worth mentioning that this processor comes with a modem which supports three carrier aggregation and 4G LTE Cat.12.

That is more or less it, these are the most essential details MediaTek has shared during the announcement of their new flagship SoC. Now, do keep in mind that the Helio X30 will not become available anytime soon. This processor is expected to hit the market next year, first smartphones powered by the Helio X30 are expected to launch in the second half of 2017.
