ZTE continues to expand its 2016 smartphone lineup with new models beyond the ZTE Nubia N1, and the latest handset to join the party is the so-called ZTE Small Fresh 4 which was recently unveiled in China. Judging by most internal components the smartphone fits in the mid-range market segment, but as is the case with most new smartphones from China, the ZTE Small Fresh 4 aims to offer more bang for the buck and incorporates high-end features including a fingerprint scanner. It is expected to hit the shelves in China later this month at the price of 1,090 Chinese Yuan which translates to roughly $162 at today’s conversion rate.
Despite its name, the ZTE Small Fresh 4 is not actually a small or compact smartphone. It measures 115 mm in height and is 64.7 mm wide, and sports a 5.2-inch IPS display with a 78.2% screen-to-body ratio and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, resulting in a pixel density of roughly 424 pixels per inch. The 5.2-inch panel is covered by a sheet of 2.5D curved glass, and underneath the screen beats the heart of an octa-core MediaTek MT6753 chipset clocked at frequencies of up to 1.5 GHz per core. The processor works in conjunction with 2 GB of RAM and an ARM Mali-T720 MP3 graphics chip, and users will rely on 16 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded through a microSD card. In the media department, the ZTE Small Fresh 4 boasts a 13-megapixel main camera coupled with a Dual LED flash, featuring an f/2.2 aperture, Phase Detection Auto Focus, and 1080p video recording capabilities. On the opposite side resides a 5-megapixel sensor for selfies, which takes advantage of beautifying post-processing technologies like ZTE’s “Face Beauty” feature. Prospective customers might also be interested in knowing that the ZTE Small Fresh 4 has a dual speaker setup, a fingerprint scanner on the back panel, and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MiFlavor UI 3.5 on top. All the components draw energy from a non-removable 2,540 mAh battery.
The ZTE Small Fresh 4 will go on sale in China by the end of July, and will be available for purchase in three colors, namely Gold, Rose Gold, and Gray. In China, the smartphone will be priced at 1,090 Yuan which should make for an interesting offer given the overall specifications, but as yet there’s no official word on when, or if the ZTE Small Fresh 4 will be released outside its homeland.
