Sprint Giving $10 App Gift Cards To Pokémon GO Players

Pokémon GO is the most happening thing in town and everybody seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. Sprint happens to be the latest to join the long list of companies, sports organizations and local businesses that are now using the wildly popular augmented reality game to spread a word or two about their own products and services. The carrier, through a press release issued earlier today, announced that it too would help players of the ubiquitous game catch their share of the virtual creatures. According to Sprint, its Direct 2 You cars would randomly drop lures at certain PokéStops across the country, thereby giving players a chance to grab the monsters, collect PokéBalls and maybe even get a “$10 credit from select app stores to buy more Poké items”.

To be eligible, all one has to do is show up at the correct PokéStop at the correct time and post their photo with a Direct 2 You representative and a Direct 2 You car on Twitter. They'll also have to address the tweet @Sprint and include the hashtags - #LevelUpWithSprint #Ad. The offer has already gone live earlier today, and will run through 11:59 PM EDT on July 31. You do not need to be a Sprint subscriber to enter the contest, and the carrier says it will contact the winners of the gift cards within 24 hours of them posting their entries on Twitter. Sprint’s chief marketing officer, Roger Sole, has also released a statement saying that Pokémon Go players will be able to charge their phones for free at the charging stations inside the company’s retail outlets.

Pokémon GO, for the uninitiated, has been an unqualified success ever since its launch earlier this month. The game has been downloaded millions of times from various app stores around the world, even though some major markets are yet to see an official release. However, Niantic seems to be prepping for a wider launch if some of the recent reports are anything to go by. The game was launched in the Spiritual home of Pokémon, Japan, just a few days ago, and has already gotten a large fan following in the country. Reports also indicate that the game’s India launch may come at some stage during the next month.
